Combing may refer to the act of untangling hair or to the process of searching carefully (i.e. beach-combing).

The work in this show employs detritus that Roan and Tegeler have collected around the fjord. Staged in the landscape, these brightly painted sculptures playfully oppose and complement their environment. The assemblages explore the contentious relationships between nature and culture, wilderness and garden, organic and artificial. By combing and styling mounds of grass, the artists dramatize the human desire to tame and cultivate nature.

About Jena Tegeler Jena Tegeler resides in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2013, she received her BA in Anthropology and Art History at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. About Kristine Roan Kristine Roan lives and works near Boston, Massachusetts. She received her BFA from Montserrat College of Art (2011) where she studied Interdisciplinary Fine Art and Art History. This is her third artist residency in Iceland, having stayed previously at Gamli Skóli on Hrísey (2011) and Nes in Skagaströnd (2013).
