About Listhus Art Resident Program

The Program was running from February 2012 to September 2019. More than
350 artists from worldwide have been visited us from 1 week to 3 months.

It was a self-directed program for creatives who are inspired by raw landscape and
enjoy quiet surroundings. The home-like setting gives residency artists a warm and
intimate feeling.  We could host 8-12 artists at a time, within 2 separate residency
houses located in close proximity to one another. The program provided an
excellent opportunity for international exchange and collaboration.

Brief History

2008: Listhús í Fjallabyggðis founded by Mr. Svavar Gudni Gunnarsson (1931-2013)
2012: Listhus Residency program was found by Alice Liu Shok Han and Sigurdur Svavarsson
2014: Listhús ses. formed for working on the managem

Listhús SES. is a non-profit organization, running by a comprehensive team and is
not backed by any public institution and so far, only gets public funding project by
project. After running a few years, we gain the trust as a working partner with local
education institutions.

After Alice and Sigurdur moved to Norway in 2017, the management was taken up by host artists
and internship. However, the program was not running smoothly enough.
The main house was sold on June 2019. So, the program was stopped after September 2019.

Thank for your visit(s) and those organizations who have supported our projects.

Fjallabyggð

In 2006, Ólafsjardabær and Siglufjardarkaupstadur are merged into
the municipality, Fjallabyggd. In 2011, the new Hédinsfjardargöng tunnel is open. These two tunnels (7km. & 4km. respectively) shorten two towns with distance in 15km. Before this new tunnel is ready, two towns are 62 km apart using the mountain road over Lágheidi. However during the winter, the road is always closed due to heavy snow. Then people had to travel 234 km in between.
